It comes after customers complained of not being able to plan for price rises.
* Mobile, broadband, and pay TV providers can no longer surprise customers with mid-contract price rises.
* New rules from Ofcom require providers to disclose any price increases in advance, including the amount of the increase and when it will occur.
* Providers must also show this information "prominently" for customers' attention during sales calls or in-store.
* The new rules come into effect on Friday and are intended to help households plan their budgets.
* Citizens Advice has expressed disappointment that the ban does not go far enough, as some contracts still allow price rises linked to inflation.
* Ofcom's director Natalie Black CBE said the new rules will "no nasty surprises" for customers.
