CNN to lay off hundreds of employees as post-inauguration transformation begins, sources say

Both CNN and NBC News are planning layoffs this week as newsrooms transition away from linear TV toward digital audiences.
Warner Bros. Discovery's CNN plans to lay off hundreds of employees on Thursday as part of a refocusing effort around a global digital audience. The move aims to lower production costs, consolidate teams, and realign resources towards areas with growth potential such as data science and product development. Certain TV shows may be relocated from New York or Washington to Atlanta for cheaper production. However, well-known CNN anchors will not be affected by the layoffs. The company has around 3,500 employees worldwide. In related news, NBC News is also planning job cuts later this week, with an estimated number of losses under 50.
