The changes are part of a cost-cutting plan, but recent tax rises for businesses have also been a factor.
* Sainsbury's:
- Cutting 3,000 jobs
- Shutting down remaining 61 cafes and patisserie/pizza counters
- Reducing senior management roles by 20%
- Costs due in part to £140m rise in employer's National Insurance contributions from April

- Announced plans to axe 201 office-based jobs
