Noel was the head of Medicare and retirement at UnitedHealthcare, the largest private health insurer in the U.S. and the insurance arm of UnitedHealth Group.
Noel, who joined the company in 2007, brings extensive experience to the role and a proven track record in improving healthcare for consumers, physicians, employers, governments, and partners.
The appointment comes amid concerns about physical safety within the industry, with companies increasing security measures and removing executive photos from their websites.
Mangione, 26, is currently being held without bond in Brooklyn for charges including murder and terrorism related to Thompson's death.
Noel oversaw UnitedHealthcare's Medicare Advantage plans, which have been a source of growth and profits but also seen increased medical costs due to seniors returning to hospitals after delaying procedures during the pandemic.
UnitedHealth Group reported fourth-quarter revenue that missed Wall Street's expectations due to weakness in its insurance business, with 2024 revenue rising 8% to $400.3 billion and expected revenue climbing again this year to a range of $450 billion to $455 billion.
