Rolls-Royce strikes £9bn nuclear submarine deal

A deal for nuclear submarine reactors is agreed between the Ministry of Defence and Rolls-Royce.

* The eight-year contract, called Unity, will create over 1,000 UK jobs and safeguard 4,000 other roles.
* The deal will provide more efficient delivery and lead to savings of £400m.
* Rolls-Royce will design, manufacture, and support nuclear submarine reactors for the Royal Navy.
* The agreement includes the build and commission of new Dreadnought Class submarines and the beginning of contracts for the Aukus defence alliance.
* The deal will also enable the company to invest in skills, equipment, and facilities to protect UK interests at home and overseas.
* Defence Secretary John Healey described the investment as a "long-term boost" to British business, jobs, and national security.
* The contract is the largest ever between the Ministry of Defence and Rolls-Royce.
