People who have fought their way out of debt give their best advice on coping in tough financial times.
* National Debtline saw a 57% increase in calls in January compared to the same period last year, with many callers struggling with energy and water bills as well as debt to family and friends.
* People who have cleared their debts share their stories on social media, helping others who are going through similar struggles.
* Rachel Hargreaves, who owed £7,000, used social media to track her progress and found a supportive community, while also implementing changes such as using cash instead of credit cards.
* Emma Quinn, who had bipolar disorder and accumulated £20,000 in debt, credits opening up to her father with helping her to get back on track.
* Sam and Paul Helsby, who owed £60,000 after losing their business due to a stroke and rising costs, sought help from Christians Against Poverty and are now debt-free and using budgeting tools to manage their finances.
* Rob Smale, who owed £35,000 after his marriage ended, is still looking for work but has improved his financial situation by seeking help from a debt charity and making changes such as cutting back on impulse purchases.
