U-turn by former the diversity champion comes as major companies face pressure to drop the policies.
Google has dropped its goal to increase diversity among employees, following an annual review of corporate policies. The company had previously committed to making "diversity, equity, and inclusion part of everything we do" but no longer includes this language in its latest investor report. This move comes as the US government under President Donald Trump's administration has ordered agencies to eliminate similar diversity initiatives. Google says it is committed to creating a workplace where all employees have equal opportunities, but will now evaluate changes required by recent court decisions and executive orders. The decision marks another major company, following Meta, Amazon, Pepsi, McDonald's, Walmart, to roll back its diversity policies. Apple has stood out as an exception, with its board recently voting against a proposal to end its diversity policies.
