A looming deadline for people to plug NI gaps, to ensure they get the full state pension, has been eased.
National Insurance Deadline Softened
* People can now request a call-back from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to discuss National Insurance gaps without being penalized if they miss the April 5 deadline.
* Voluntary extra contributions to plug gaps back to 2006 will still be available after the deadline, but only through an online call-back request form.
* A return call from the DWP is expected within eight weeks of submitting a call-back request.
* The online tool allows people to make top-up payments after April 5, provided they complete the call-back request form ahead of that date.
* Pensions experts advise checking whether extra contributions are worthwhile for individual finances before making a decision.
