Wed, 12 Mar 2025 Disabled people must have a say in rail reforms, MP says

The transport committee chair urged the government "not to forget about disabled people" ahead of nationalisation.
The head of parliament's transport committee has written to the rail minister, urging him to prioritize accessibility in upcoming rail reforms. Ruth Cadbury, chair of the select committee, expressed concerns that the current consultation on rail reforms does not mention making Great British Railways consider accessibility when planning services. Campaigners have welcomed Cadbury's letter and are pressing for the government to put accessibility at the heart of its plans. A spokesperson for the Department for Transport said that "accessibility is a core priority" but campaigners remain unhappy with the current consultation, which they say has omitted previously promised measures to improve accessibility. The government has been in crisis talks with disability campaigners over the issue.
