Mon, 17 Mar 2025 Reeves summons regulators to No 10 in drive for cuts to red tape

The Chancellor will unveil plans to cut bureaucracy as the government continues its bid to slash red tape.

* Regulators will meet Chancellor Rachel Reeves at No 10 on Monday to discuss plans to cut bureaucracy and regulation costs by a quarter.
* The government aims to streamline environmental permitting, reduce red tape, and unveil 60 regulator-agreed measures to boost economic growth.
* Changes expected include: + Streamlining the environmental regulatory process for major projects + Reviewing environmental guidance, including hundreds of pages on bats + Removing environmental permits for low-risk and temporary projects + Abolishing the Regulator for Community Interest Companies and folding it into Companies House
* The government plans to abolish or slim down some regulators, with Chancellor Reeves promising to significantly cut their number by the end of Parliament.
* 60 regulator-agreed measures are set to be announced, designed to make it easier to do business in the UK.
