Wed, 19 Mar 2025 First individual Horizon victim to sue Post Office

Lee Castleton has started a legal claim against his former employer over the Horizon scandal.
Former sub-postmaster Lee Castleton is taking legal action against the Post Office and Fujitsu, seeking compensation for a civil judgement he claims was obtained through fraud. He is the first individual to sue both organisations in connection with the Horizon IT scandal that led to hundreds of wrongful convictions. Castleton's case is particularly high-profile as his conviction has not been overturned, unlike many others who were wrongfully accused. He alleges that the Post Office and Fujitsu withheld evidence about the unreliability of the Horizon system during his court proceedings. The judgement against him was for £25,000, which he claims was an attempt to make an example of him. His lawyer states that they will argue the claim was an abuse of process and that the judgement was obtained through fraud. Castleton has received an interim payment from the Post Office's compensation scheme but wants his case to be heard in court rather than relying on the scheme. He also hopes to help other victims who are fighting for their compensation.
