* A former top civil servant, Sir Robert Devereux, has been appointed to lead an independent investigation into the ONS' effectiveness in delivering statistics.
* The review will assess the ONS' organisational culture, structure and leadership as well as its relationships with other government departments.
* The Bank of England has previously criticised the ONS for the reliability of its job market data.
* The ONS is set to publish a new strategic business plan this week which outlines priorities for key statistics and services over the next year.
