Fri, 04 Apr 2025 The British winners and losers from Trump tariffs

Some UK exporters to the US see a chance to grow their firms, even as others fear a drop in sales.

* Joe & Seph's, a London-based luxury popcorn-maker, saw fewer orders from US retailers due to tariffs uncertainty and plans to focus on growing exports to the Middle East and Asia.
* Robinsons Brothers, an organic chemicals firm, expects the new tariff to be a "good thing" as it may help them regain customers in the US who switched to cheaper Chinese or Indian imports.
* DPS Designs, a Forest of Dean-based metal mould maker for airplane seats, will negotiate with customers to share the pain of the 10% tariffs but is concerned about unclear language around the tariff criteria.
* The Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders warns that the new tariff will increase costs for US consumers and reduce their choice of British-made cars.
* Maeving, an electric motorcycle maker, expects US sales to be affected by the tariff but has so far not seen a significant impact due to higher demand in the country.
