Thu, 10 Apr 2025 Oldest Post Office scandal victim says new compensation offer 'not good enough'

Betty Brown's offer was increased from 30% to 60%, but still below what she claimed when her life was "destroyed" by scandal.

* Betty Brown, 92, a victim of the Post Office Horizon scandal, has had her compensation offer increased from 29% to 60% but claims it's still not good enough.
* She was forced out of her branch in County Durham in 2003 after being accused of theft due to faulty software.
* The Horizon IT system was responsible for over 900 sub-postmasters being wrongfully accused, with many prosecuted and some jailed.
* Betty spent £50,000 of her savings to cover shortfalls that did not exist.
* She has been waiting 26 years for justice and still feels "fobbed off".
* Over £892m has been paid to over 6,200 claimants across four different compensation schemes.
* A group of MPs in January said compensation is being paid too slowly and called for changes to the redress process.
* Post Office Minister Gareth Thomas promised to look into Betty's case but she still feels that justice is not being served.
