Thu, 17 Apr 2025 UK ban on EU cheese and meat: What it means for you

The temporary measure by the government is aimed at stopping the spread of foot and mouth disease.

* The UK government has temporarily banned bringing certain foods from EU into Great Britain, including: + Raw and packaged meats (pork, beef, lamb, mutton, goat, venison) + Dairy products (cheese, butter, yoghurt, milk) + Pet food + Sandwiches and cured meats
* Exceptions include chicken, duck, goose, and products made from these animals
* The ban does not apply to Northern Ireland, or to commercial importers who must follow specific regulations
* Travellers bringing in banned items personally may have their goods seized and destroyed, and could face fines of up to £5,000
* Foot and mouth disease is harmless to humans but highly contagious for animals, which can catch it through direct contact, contaminated meat, or dairy products.
