Mumsnet's founder says a number of advertisers have pulled out over the site's gender discussions.
Ocado has apologized "unreservedly" to Mumsnet after citing "hateful political views" as the reason for pulling out of a commercial partnership. However, founder Justine Roberts claims Ocado abruptly withdrew from the deal after Mumsnet called for reforming the Equality Act to allow single-sex spaces for biological women.
The Supreme Court recently ruled that a woman is defined by biological sex under the Equality Act, which would have aligned with Mumsnet's proposed reforms. Despite this, Ocado claimed the comments were made by a "temporary contractor" who has since left and are not representative of the company.
Mumsnet's founder stated she feared the site might not survive due to advertiser withdrawal over discussions on gender issues, despite the platform making repeated attempts to explain its stance as one that amplifies women's voices.
Ocado apologized for any confusion caused by their initial decision and claimed they are committed to supporting diverse communities, including those of trans individuals.
