Julie Sarahs decided to take action after her daughter's prom was cancelled twice.
Julie Sarahs, a mother from Stroud, has set up a pop-up shop called Stroud Community Costumes where students can borrow formal wear for proms at no cost or a voluntary donation. The idea came about after her daughter missed two proms due to Covid and was inspired by the rising costs of some dresses reaching over £200. Sarahs' shop now has over 100 dresses, suits, shoes, and bags available for students to borrow, with any donations used to purchase more items for the shop. Borrowers are asked only to provide their contact details and return the item in good condition.
