Chancellor Rachel Reeves speaks to the BBC ahead of talks with her US counterpart in Washington on Friday.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves has expressed understanding towards President Trump's desire to address global trade imbalances through tariffs, ahead of talks between the two leaders in Washington on Friday.
Reeves acknowledged that there is an issue with tariffs but believes Trump wants to address "some of the global imbalances" that exist within the system.
She also expressed confidence about the UK's economic prospects, saying that a trade deal could be reached as the country does not have a significant surplus or deficit with the US.
