Wed, 30 Apr 2025 Richard Branson criticises Donald Trump's tariffs

Sir Richard Branson told the BBC he wanted to "make London prosperous for everybody".
Sir Richard Branson believes the UK remains an excellent place to start a business, despite Brexit and Donald Trump's tariffs. At the launch of Virgin Group's new hotel in London, he acknowledged that there is "complete uncertainty" about the impact of US tariffs. However, he expressed confidence in the country's stability and said it's still a good time to invest. Branson praised London as a special place, saying it's one of the few countries in the world with economic stability. He noted that the UK has endured various crises over the years but always manages to bounce back. Virgin Hotels' CEO James Bermingham echoed Branson's sentiments, stating that Londoners are resilient and will weather any storm. Bermingham also expressed support for a "small, reasonable" tourist tax that would improve the tourist experience without restricting demand. Branson emphasized his commitment to making London prosperous for all its residents, saying that successful businesses can help drive down taxes. He acknowledged the unpredictability of Trump's policies but remained optimistic about the UK's future prospects.
