Wed, 30 Apr 2025 Struggling families urged to use Honesty Jar shop

The Honesty Jar helps those struggling financially by offering items for free or at a low cost.

* A community shop called the Honesty Jar in Henstridge, Somerset offers essential items for free or low cost to struggling families
* The shop has 40 volunteers and helps around 1,000 people per month
* Items available include clothes, school uniforms, books, shoes, toys, and kitchenware
* Donations are encouraged and the team is looking for reusable items that can be taken home straight away
* The shop aims to provide a "dignified way" for people to access what they need without adding financial pressure
* Two metric tonnes of donations are received each week, and the team needs to find new homes for these items to prevent them from going to landfill
* Without community support, including fundraising events and volunteering, the shop wouldn't be able to continue providing vital support to those in need
