The burger chain says its US customers are "grappling with uncertainty".
* McDonald's US sales dropped 3.6% in the first three months of this year compared to a year ago, its biggest decline since June 2020.
* The company blamed consumer uncertainty and rising prices for the drop, with Chief Executive Chris Kempczinski saying customers are "grappling with uncertainty".
* Despite marketing tie-ins and price deals, McDonald's saw a decline in US customer visits during this period.
* Global like-for-like revenue fell by 1% over the same three-month period to March.
* The company has been working to reinvigorate enthusiasm among customers after facing backlash over rising prices, particularly among lower-income households.
* The drop in sales coincided with a contraction in the US economy, which shrank at an annual rate of 0.3% in the first three months of this year.
