Fri, 09 May 2025 Greater Anglia to be nationalised in October

The rail firm says it will be brought under public ownership later this year.

* Greater Anglia will be nationalised on October 12, with no impact expected on train services, timetables, or station facilities.
* The company's employees' roles will transfer across to the public sector.
* The Department for Transport (DfT) aims for a "smooth" transition and says nationalisation will bring savings of up to £150m.
* The government plans to set up Great British Railways (GBR), an arms-length body, to take over service contracts from private firms as they expire in the coming years.
* South Western Railway is also being nationalised this month, with c2c following in July.
* Labour passed the Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Act 2024 in November to enable the government to exercise powers for public ownership.
* Shadow rail minister Jerome Mayhew has expressed concerns that nationalisation will end up costing taxpayers more money.
