The planned layoffs mean the Japanese carmaker has now cut about 15% of its workforce in the past year.
* Nissan will cut another 11,000 jobs globally and shut 7 factories due to weak sales.
* The company's workforce will be reduced by 15% with a total of 20,000 layoffs announced in the past year.
* Most job cuts (2/3) will come from manufacturing, while the rest will be from sales, administration, research, and contract staff.
* It was not immediately clear where the job cuts will be made, but Sunderland factory is of "vital importance" to the north east of England.
* Nissan employs 133,500 people globally, with about 6,000 workers in Sunderland.
* The company's chief executive Ivan Espinosa said the latest layoffs are part of a cost saving effort to reduce global production by a fifth.
* Nissan reported an annual loss of 670 billion yen ($4.5bn; £3.4bn) and expects flat profit this year due to US tariff measures.
