The short rental firm says it is aiming to offer a wider range of experiences for travellers.
Airbnb has revamped its app, allowing users to book luxury services such as personal trainers, massages, and chefs on top of short-term rentals. The company aims to offer "the best of both worlds" by combining the space offered by Airbnb with the amenities typically found at hotels. The new services will be available in 260 cities worldwide and cost from under $50 per booking.
The app's updated experiences tab also allows users to book bespoke tours and activities, which was first launched in 2016. Additionally, a new originals tab offers exclusive experiences across the globe, including unique activities with famous people such as Olympian Carol Solberg and NFL star Patrick Mahomes.
This move reflects a wider trend in the travel industry, where tourists are seeking out off-the-beaten-path experiences and customization options. Airbnb's revamped app aims to cater to this demand by offering more luxury services and exclusive experiences.
However, the company is also facing challenges from local authorities and residents, who have expressed concerns about the impact of short-term rentals on housing markets and communities.
