The Caribbean island is building a power station that will use steam naturally heated by volcanic rock.
* Dominica, known as the "Nature Island", aims to generate clean electricity using geothermal energy.
* The government plans to build a 10-megawatt power station in the south of the country, which will access boiling hot water from underground reservoirs heated by volcanic rock.
* The plant is expected to become operational by the end of the year and will reduce the country's reliance on diesel generators.
* The project is part of Dominica's goal to eliminate diesel generation for electricity by 2030 and reduce electricity bills.
* Surplus energy will be exported to neighboring islands via undersea cables.
* The project is a public-private partnership between the government and US-Israeli renewable energy company Ormat Technologies, costing tens of millions of dollars.
* Ormat has been designing and building renewable energy systems for over 50 years and believes geothermal energy can become a hub in the Caribbean.
