Hundreds of sub-postmasters had their names and addresses accidentally published online last year.
The Post Office has agreed to pay compensation to hundreds of former sub-postmasters after accidentally publishing their personal details on its corporate website last year. A data breach in June 2023 exposed the names and addresses of 555 people who were victims of the Horizon IT scandal. The company will pay individual payouts of up to £5,000, with potential for higher sums if further claims are pursued. So far, 348 out of 420 affected individuals have received payments from law firm Freeths, which represented them in a landmark High Court case in 2017. Former sub-postmaster Chris Head welcomed the apology and payout, but criticized the Post Office for taking too long to acknowledge the mistake.
