Tue, 20 May 2025 Tesla battery maker sees shares jump on Hong Kong debut

China's CATL makes more than a third of electric vehicle batteries sold worldwide and also supplies VW and Toyota.

* CATL's shares jumped by more than 10% on its first day of trading in Hong Kong
* The company raised almost HK$35.7bn ( $4.55bn, £3.4bn) from its listing
* CATL produces over a third of all EV batteries sold worldwide and supplies major carmakers including Tesla, Volkswagen and Toyota
* The company has a valuation of over 1tn yuan ($138.7bn, £104.3bn) on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange
* Almost 70% of CATL's total revenue comes from the Chinese market
* The company employs over 100,000 people and has 13 production plants around the world
