Fri, 23 May 2025 Indian IT giant investigates link to M&S cyber-attack

M&S said earlier this week that the hackers got into systems via a third party - but did not say who that was.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is conducting an internal investigation into its potential role as a "third party" gateway for the cyber-attack on Marks & Spencer (M&S). M&S has stated that hackers gained access to their systems through a third-party company, rather than directly. The investigation aims to determine whether TCS was involved in the breach, and is expected to be concluded by the end of the month. M&S customers have been unable to make online purchases since April 30, with services expected to return to normal gradually over the coming weeks. The cyber-attack is estimated to cost M&S £300 million in lost profits this year. Police are investigating a group called Scattered Spider, which has also targeted other major brands including Harrods and Co-op. TCS has declined to comment on the investigation, but its relationship with M&S dates back over a decade and includes work on their customer reward scheme.
