The government will no longer fund some courses for older learners in order to boost entry level training places.
* The government plans to scrap funding for postgraduate apprenticeships (level 7), only students under 21 will qualify for this level of apprenticeship
* Many higher apprenticeships would have to be paid for by employers, which could impact advanced NHS training and other professions such as accountants, tax advisors and solicitors
* The government promises to create 120,000 more training opportunities for young adults and those who need to retrain, with an increase in a charge on employers recruiting from outside the UK used to fund 45,000 places
* New foundation apprenticeships will be introduced at GCSE level in sectors such as health and social care, engineering and construction, intended to provide a broad introduction to work before students specialise
