The mayor of Tower Hamlets says the funding will "go some way" to support children.
* Tower Hamlets Council will provide a £150 school uniform grant to around 7,000 families in east London.
* The grant is available to families with a household income of £50,350 or less and children entering primary or secondary school.
* Mayor Lutfur Rahman said it would "go some way" to support children in the borough.
* A local parent, Mohi, expressed relief at the announcement as school uniform costs are a "matter of worry" for him and his family.
* The government's Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill aims to limit branded uniform items required by schools to three at primary and four at secondary level.
* Some schools already offer subsidies or free items to students, including London Enterprise Academy which provides a PE kit and blazers to Year 10 students.
