Wed, 28 May 2025 Musk 'disappointed' by Trump's tax and spending bill

As the former Doge chief, Musk had worked to reduce government spending which he says this bill contradicts.
Elon Musk has publicly criticized a key policy of Donald Trump, which he helped to pass in 2024. The bill includes massive tax breaks and increased defense spending, but Musk says it undermines his previous efforts to reduce government spending. As Trump's cost-cutting tsar, Musk had aimed to cut $1 trillion from the budget by cutting funds for foreign aid and other projects. However, he now claims that the new bill "increases the budget deficit" and contradicts the work of his own team, the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge). Musk's comments have highlighted the growing divide within Trump's Republican Party over tax-and-spend plans. The bill could increase the US deficit by $600 billion in the next fiscal year.
