Donald Trump says he will double tariffs on steel and aluminium imports to 50% from Wednesday.
UK steelmakers have expressed concerns over US President Donald Trump's decision to double import taxes on steel and aluminum to 50%. Trade group UK Steel claims this will cause further uncertainty for the industry, with some orders potentially being delayed or cancelled. The new tariff will come into effect on Wednesday, replacing a previous 25% tax. UK Steel director general Gareth Stace stated that the move is "yet another body blow" to the industry and urged the government to finalize a trade deal that would exempt the UK from US steel tariffs. A UK government spokesperson said they are engaging with the US to provide clarity on the implications of the new tariff.
