Tue, 10 Jun 2025 Eurostar plans direct trains to Frankfurt and Geneva

The firm hopes a fleet of up to 50 new trains will be up and running by the early 2030s.

* Eurostar plans to launch direct train services from London to Germany and Switzerland by the early 2030s.
* A fleet of up to 50 new trains, costing around €2bn (£1.7bn), will be introduced to replace some older ones.
* Travel time between London and Frankfurt will be about five hours, while Geneva will take around five hours and 20 minutes.
* Eurostar needs to ensure it has enough space at its depot in east London for the new trains.
* The company's boss said there is strong demand for train travel across Europe despite operational costs and inflation.
* The introduction of new trains will lead to a 30% increase in trains servicing London.
* Eurostar plans to operate direct lines from Geneva to both Amsterdam and Brussels, but it's unclear if the routes will include stops along the way.
* However, Eurostar's plans are not set in stone as its depot at Temple Mills is also wanted by rival companies, including Evolyn and Virgin.
