Stormont Minister Gordon Lyons says it's disgraceful that scammers are trying to dupe pensioners less than 24 hours after the payment was restored.
Government minister Gordon Lyons has warned that scammers are targeting pensioners who are eligible for winter fuel payments, which were reinstated yesterday after being stopped for millions across the UK. Lyons stated that it's "disgraceful" that people are trying to take advantage of pensioners in this way. He reminded those entitled to the payment that no application or banking details are required, as the money will be paid out automatically. The minister also confirmed that only those earning £35,000 or less will be eligible for the payments. Payments of up to £300 per household for over 80s and £200 for under 80s will be made in Northern Ireland. The government has assured that pensioners in Northern Ireland will receive their payments at the same time as others across the UK.
