The US Commerce Secretary said the deal should result in some restrictions being resolved.
* The US and China have agreed in principle to a framework for de-escalating trade tensions between the two countries.
* The deal aims to resolve restrictions on rare earth minerals and magnets, which are crucial for modern technology.
* Both sides will take the plan to their presidents - Donald Trump and Xi Jinping - for approval.
* The agreement comes after two days of negotiations in London between top officials from Beijing and Washington.
* China has been accused by the US of being slow to release exports of rare earth metals, while the US has restricted China's access to certain goods such as semiconductors.
* A previous temporary truce over trade tariffs had been agreed last month, but both countries have since accused each other of breaching the deal.
