The boss of mobile gaming giant Supercell says the industry needs to take bigger risks to compete.
- Mobile games that are at least 6 years old account for 60% of playtime
- Only 10% of playing time is on titles developed in the past year
- Paananen says the industry will struggle to attract attention without exciting new games
The cost of developing mobile games has increased due to advancements in technology and consumer expectations. Supercell's own production line has had setbacks, but they are taking a different approach with some new games.
* Squad Busters was launched last year but failed to meet expectations
* Mo.co is an invite-only monster hunting game
Mobile gaming expert Neil Long notes that the industry has become more competitive and developers are now focusing on iterative releases rather than big splashy launches.
