Tue, 01 Jul 2025 Bank of England to redesign banknotes - and wants your help

The first facelift in more than 50 years signals the possible end of historical figures on notes.
The Bank of England is planning a major redesign of its banknotes, which have not been updated in over 50 years. The current designs feature notable historical figures such as Sir Winston Churchill, but may be replaced with new themes. The public is being asked for their opinions on what should feature on the next series of £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes. Possible new themes include:
* Nature
* Innovation
* Key events in history Instead of historical figures, banknotes could feature images of British birds, bridges, or even food like bangers and mash. The monarch has appeared on Bank of England notes since 1960, but the current series features notable historical figures. The public can submit their views via an online form on the Bank's website or by post by July. The final decision will be made by the Bank's governor.
