One in 10 cars bought in the UK are Chinese owned, new figures suggest.
* In June, one in 10 cars sold in the UK were made in China.
* Chinese brands accounted for 18,944 sales in June, a 10% share of overall UK sales.
* This is up from 6% in June last year and 5% in both 2023 and 2024.
* Across the first half of this year, more than 8% of cars sold were Chinese (1 in 12).
* In contrast, Chinese brands made up only 4.3% of the market across the EU, 1.6% in Germany, and 2.7% in France, although they were higher at 9.2% in Spain.
* Industry experts attribute the UK's high percentage to a lack of tariffs on Chinese imports, as well as the popularity of electric cars.
* The UK may need to introduce quotas or get Chinese manufacturers to manufacture in the country in order to compete with domestic industry.
* One in four new car buyers in the UK are now purchasing electric cars, driven by "unsustainable" discounting by manufacturers.
