Sun, 06 Jul 2025 Eurostar train evacuated during nine-hour delay in northern France

The rail operator has apologised after passengers were stuck on the London-bound train that broke down near Calais.
A power failure stranded thousands on a Eurostar train traveling from Brussels to London, leaving passengers without air conditioning or working toilets for over four hours. The delay was so severe that it turned a two-hour journey into a more than 11-hour ordeal. Passengers were finally evacuated and transferred onto a replacement train, but not before they had been stuck on the stranded train with no updates from Eurostar. The train broke down between Lille and Calais due to a power failure, leaving passengers without electricity. During their time on the stranded train, passengers reported overflowing toilets, sweltering temperatures, and a lack of communication from Eurostar staff. Some passengers even took matters into their own hands by staging an impromptu concert outside the train to entertain others while they waited for the replacement service to arrive. Eurostar has apologized for the incident and offered affected customers a full refund or a voucher worth three times their ticket value. The company said that repairs were now complete, but delays are expected until the end of Wednesday.
