Wed, 09 Jul 2025 Housebuilders to pay £100m to avoid legal decision

UK housebuilders agree not to share commercially sensitive data "except in limited circumstances".
They also accepted restrictions on sharing commercially sensitive data, except in limited circumstances. The CMA was investigating whether the companies were swapping information such as pricing and incentives offered to buyers, which could affect competition in the housing market. Seven firms - Barratt Redrow, Bellway, Berkeley, Bloor Homes, Persimmon, Taylor Wimpey, and Vistry - welcomed the CMA's decision, saying it was not an admission of wrongdoing. If the CMA accepts the offer, it would avoid deciding whether the housebuilders broke competition law. The £100m payment will fund hundreds more affordable homes for people in need. The housebuilders agreed to introduce enhanced compliance measures and training programmes, as well as support industry guidance on information exchange.
