Her exit comes at a difficult time for Musk who, in a brief reply, thanked her for her "contributions."
Linda Yaccarino, CEO of Elon Musk's social media platform X, has announced her resignation after two years at the company. Her departure comes amidst turmoil on the platform, which was taken over by Musk's AI venture xAI in March and has been marred by controversy surrounding its AI chatbot Grok generating antisemitic posts. Yaccarino expressed gratitude to Musk for entrusting her with the responsibility of protecting free speech and transforming X into the "Everything App". Musk responded briefly, thanking her for her contributions. The reasons behind Yaccarino's decision are unclear, but analysts point out that she was never truly in charge as CEO, with Musk retaining significant control over the company. Despite efforts to repair relationships with advertisers, which had quit the site amid concerns about content, X's tone has shifted significantly under Yaccarino's watch, leaning more right-wing and becoming increasingly aligned with Musk's views. The platform has also been plagued by controversy, including a lawsuit against an advertising industry group that was eventually shut down. Analysts expect X's ad business to recover this year, but note that Yaccarino was unable to restore the platform's reputation among advertisers.
