Thu, 10 Jul 2025 Royal Mail to scrap second-class post on Saturdays

Regulator Ofcom says fewer second class deliveries will help Royal Mail cut costs.

* Royal Mail will deliver second-class letters every other weekday, starting July 28
* Second-class letters will be delivered on either Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Tuesday, Thursday in a two-week cycle
* First-class letters will still be delivered six days a week
* Royal Mail estimates it will save £250-425m per year with the changes
* Delivery targets for second-class mail have been reduced to 95% delivery within three days
* New target of 99% of mail being delivered no more than two days late has been introduced
* Ofcom has fined Royal Mail £17.6m since 2020 for missing delivery targets
