The heritage and conservation charity says it is under "sustained cost pressures" and is looking to save £26m.
* The National Trust plans to cut 6% of its workforce, approximately 550 jobs, as part of a plan to find £26m in savings.
* The charity cites "sustained cost pressures beyond our control", including increased employer National Insurance contributions and the National Living Wage rise from April.
* These changes have added more than £10m to the Trust's annual wage bill, with pay being its biggest expense.
* A 45-day consultation period has begun with staff, who will be offered suitable alternatives or voluntary redundancy if their role is at risk.
* The job cuts will affect all staff levels and will take place in the autumn following the completion of consultations.
