A preliminary investigation found the switches had been turned off in June's fatal Air India crash.
US aviation regulator claims Boeing aircraft fuel control switches are safe, despite being linked to Air India crash that killed 260 people in June. Investigators pointed to potential safety issues with switches after preliminary report released. US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said switches' design, including locking feature, is similar on various Boeing models but doesn't make planes unsafe. FAA stated it won't issue directives based on its own 2018 advisory urging inspection of fuel cut-off switch locks. Air India chief warned against drawing conclusions before full investigation and noted no mechanical issues found with the aircraft or engines. Extra checks were carried out across Air India's 787 fleet after the accident, but all were deemed fit for service.
