Government will subsidise prices cuts to encourage a shift away from petrol and diesel.
* The UK government has introduced grants to reduce the cost of new electric cars by up to £3,750.
* The discounts will apply to eligible vehicles costing up to £37,000 and will be available for three years.
* Buyers can claim a discount at the dealership, ranging from £1,500 to £3,750.
* The grants are funded through a £650m scheme and will help reduce the cost of electric vehicles (EVs).
* There are currently around 82,000 public charging points in the UK, but some drivers say this is not enough to encourage people to buy EVs.
* The government has pledged to ban the sale of new fully petrol or diesel cars and vans from 2030.
* Some drivers have expressed concerns that the UK needs more charging points before people can make the switch to electric vehicles.
