The coffees shop firm is offering one-time payments to staff who decide to leave rather than comply.
* Starbucks requires corporate staff to work in the office for at least 4 days a week (up from 3) starting October.
* Staff who don't comply will be offered a one-time payout if they choose to leave.
* The new policy applies to US and Canada, and is part of efforts by companies to restrict remote working.
* Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol said the change is necessary for the company to "do its best work".
* Certain managers will need to relocate to Seattle or Toronto as a result of the policy change.
* This is part of a series of changes Niccol has made to turn around the company, which includes menu and store revamps.
* Other companies such as Amazon and JP Morgan have also tightened their remote work policies.
* Research suggests that overall working practices have been fairly stable in recent years, with about 45% of staff enjoying hybrid policies.
