The airline says it is "determined to eliminate the scourge of oversized bags" on its planes.
Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary has proposed increasing a bonus for staff who identify passengers with oversized bags, from €1.50 (£1.30) to an unspecified amount. The airline aims to eliminate excessive baggage, which delays boarding and affects 0.1% of passengers. Oversized baggage fees are only paid by this small minority, while over 99% of passengers comply with Ryanair's generous baggage rules. Mr O'Leary believes his airline is already struggling with the current amount of baggage taken on planes. He suggests that the bonus will incentivize staff to reduce excess baggage, which he hopes will decline in the coming years.
