Thu, 24 Jul 2025 King meets Modi after India-UK trade deal signed

The free trade deal is expected to cut tariffs on goods and increase market access for both countries.

* Lower tariffs on UK exports to India, including cars (15% to 3%) and whisky (150% to 75%)
* Cheaper Indian textiles and jewellery in the UK
* Commitment to a new plan to tackle illegal migration between the two countries
* Increased trade worth £4.8bn per year for the British economy The deal will create over 2,200 British jobs and includes enhanced collaboration on defence, education, climate, technology, and innovation. Opponents had warned that the deal could undercut British workers due to extended social security terms, but Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said this was "completely wrong". The agreement has not yet been agreed by the UK parliament and is expected to take at least a year to come into effect.
