Thu, 31 Jul 2025 Cost of living plan renewed for another year

Medway Council leader Vince Maple says the scheme is "something I wish didn't have to exist".
1,537 pensioner households that missed out on receiving pension credit were given £200 from the household support fund. Over 1,000 households received financial guidance and support through the council's financial welfare hub. 24,300 individuals and 1,350 families received food parcels and hot meals every month. 314 households were helped to avoid emergency accommodation due to investing in staff to help rough sleepers. A new addition to the plan is discounted entry for The Historic Dockyard Chatham for those on Universal Credit, reducing the price to £2. Medway Council will also reinvest in the ReferKent system, which helps refer people to organisations that assist with issues such as loan sharks and addiction.
