Mon, 04 Aug 2025 Food parcel scheme for families faces axe

For years, the Lunch Bags for Children initiative has fed around 100 pupils each school holiday.
A food parcel scheme that supports vulnerable families with groceries during school holidays is facing closure due to funding cuts. The Lunch Bags for Children initiative has provided meals for around 100 children per holiday over the past three years, but its future hangs in the balance. The parish behind the initiative claims that poverty is a growing issue in their area, despite being located in affluent Surrey. Each week's worth of groceries costs £1,000 to provide, and while charities have been supporting the scheme, they are struggling to keep up with demand. A local vicar has called for donations to ensure the project can continue until Easter next year.
